About Us
Centre for Somatics
We envision individuals, whānau and our communities resourced, connected and thriving.
Our commitment is to deliver high-quality, body-centred programmes, training and 1-1 coaching and counselling in an environment of attuned care which provides real results for our clients and our community.
We know that the impact of our experiences, past and present, are retained in the body and manifest physically in our health and behaviour. By using body-based interventions, we are able to physiologically process the charge our body carries from generalised stress and trauma, regaining nervous system responsiveness to optimise mental health and wellbeing.
Our programmes and 1-1 coaching offer meaningful wellbeing tools and strategies by combining movement, stabilising breath work, and mental resilience tools to develop the ability to maintain centredness and clarity under pressure. Our methodology centres around the science of social connection and safety as laid out in Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory.
What we do

Community Hauora Fund
At the heart of our organisation is our commitment to sustainable accessibility.
The imprint of stress and trauma exists everywhere in our communities: We see it in our our youth mental health, our domestic violence rates, our suicide rates, our corporate burnout rates.
Equitable accessibility to services is vital. Imagine our communities across Aotearoa thriving: people with the tools to regulate in stressful situations and feel safe and autonomous in their behaviour and actions.
The Community Hauora Fund is our commitment to extending our programmes to under-resourced communities. We partner with organisations who work with under-resourced communities; we co-design an 8 week programme based around specific needs in the group, we deliver the programme, and we evaluate.
